To burn your candle safely, follow the below steps.
- Trim the wick: Before each use, trim the wick to about ¼ inch. The wick holds the flame and helps you time how long to burn the candle.
- Keep it away from drafts: Avoid placing the candle near open windows, air conditioning vents, or air circulators. Drafts can cause the candle to burn unevenly and form soot.
- Keep it away from things that can catch fire: Keep the candle away from curtains, bedding, clothing, and decorations.
- Keep it away from children and pets: Keep the candle out of reach of children and pets.
- Don't leave it unattended: Never leave a candle burning unattended, even if you're just going to fall asleep or leave the house.
- Extinguish it safely: Use a candle snuffer, lid, or wick dipper to extinguish the candle. Never use water, as it can cause the hot wax to splatter.
- Stop using it when there's half an inch of wax left: Stop using the candle when there's about half an inch of wax left at the bottom.
- Store it properly: Store candles in a cool, dark, and dry place.
